Day seeks to be an extension of the celebration that takes place in Lima since
2009
ü Paterson is a city that
with the largest number of Peruvians living abroad, reaching 55,000.
The
city of Paterson, New Jersey with more than 55,000 Peruvians residing there, on
June 30th, will become the center of operations aimed at
establishing the International Day of Peruvian Ceviche, as an extension of the
celebration that takes place in Peru since 2009.
Paterson’s
Mayor, Jeffery Jones, who has initiated a series of activities as part of his
administration to reassess the customs and identities of dozens of communities
of different origins that reside in the mentioned city, located just minutes
from New York, will be the preside over the ceremony for “CEVICHE FEST”, joined
by consul authorities.
The
celebration will take place in collaboration with Peru's trade office in New
York and the Consulate General of Peru in the state of New Jersey. For this
collaboration the Peruvian consular office located in Paterson will be arranged
for the development of this great food fair that will feature the ceviche,
which can be tasted along with a varied menu of seafood dishes from Peru.
The
organizer of the event, the Peruvian-American businesswoman Heidi Castrillón,
highlighted the initiative of Paterson’s mayor to support the activities of the
various communities that have a presence in Paterson with the aim of
highlighting their contribution to American society.
It
should be noted that in Peru, National Ceviche Day was established by
Ministerial Resolution No. 708-2008 of the Ministry of Production, PRODUCE,
which set the date for its celebration on June 28th. The
aforementioned legal provision was issued on September 18th, 2008,
and the following year the festivities began in the name of this great Peruvian
cuisine.
Mentioned
resolution states that "it is of national interest to promote and
disseminate Peruvian ceviche, both domestically and internationally, as the
national dish, stimulating its culinary consumption."
Therefore,
Castrillón said that the event scheduled for June 30th in Paterson
seeks to give impetus to ceviche at the international level. "There is
research that indicates that the ceviche or also known as seviche, originated
in Peru. However, similar preparations appear in other Latin American countries
of the Pacific Ocean coastlines, such as Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador,
El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, and Panama," said the
entrepreneur.
She
added that this fair hopes not only to gather 450,000 Peruvians living in New
Jersey, but also citizens from throughout the northeastern U.S.; including
those from the Tri-State Area, consisting of New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut.

busca instaurar Día Internacional del Ceviche Peruano como extensión de la
celebración que se efectúa en Lima desde el 2009
ü Paterson
es la ciudad en el mundo que tiene el mayor número de peruanos que residen en
el exterior, alcanzando la cifra de 55 mil.
La ciudad de Paterson, en New Jersey con
los más de 55 mil peruanos que residen en dicha jurisdicción se convertirá el
próximo 30 de junio en el centro de operaciones orientadas a instaurar el Día
Internacional del Ceviche Peruano, como extensión de la celebración que desde
el 2009 tiene lugar en el Perú.
El alcalde de Paterson, Jeffery Jones,
quien
ha iniciado una serie de actividades como parte de su gestión con el fin de
revalorar las costumbres y la identidad de decenas de comunidades de diferente
origen que acoge la mencionada ciudad ubicada a escasos minutos de New York,
Será quien presida la ceremonia de este evento “CEVICHE FEST”en conjunto con
las autoridades consulares.
En tal sentido, dicha celebración se
efectuará con la colaboración de la oficina comercial del Perú en New york y el
Consulado General del Perú en el estado de New Jersey. Para tal efecto se
acondicionará un área donde está ubicada la oficina consular del Perú en
Paterson, para el desarrollo de esta gran feria gastronómica que tendrá como
protagonista al cebiche, el cual podrá degustarse junto con una variada carta
de platos marinos de origen peruano.
La presidenta del comité organizador de
la celebración del día del ceviche en los Estados Unidos, la empresaria
peruano-americana Heidi Castrillón, resaltó la iniciativa del alcalde de
Paterson de apoyar las actividades de las 52 comunidades que tienen presencia
en Paterson con el fin de resaltar su aporte a la sociedad americana.
Cabe señalar que en Perú el Día Nacional
del Cebiche se estableció mediante la Resolución Ministerial Nº 708-2008 del
Ministerio de la Producción PRODUCE, que fijo como fecha para dicha celebración
el 28 de junio. El mencionado dispositivo legal fue emitido el 18 de septiembre
del 2008 y es partir del año siguiente en que se inicia los festejos en nombre
de este contundente plato de la gastronomía peruana.
La citada resolución declara que “es de
interés nacional fomentar y difundir el ceviche peruano, tanto a nivel nacional
como internacional, como plato de bandera nacional, estimulando su consumo
culinario”.
Al respecto, Castrillón señaló que el
evento previsto para el próximo 30 de junio en Paterson busca darle impulso al
ceviche a nivel internacional. “Existen investigaciones que señalan que el
cebiche o ceviche se originó en Perú. No obstante el plato nacional del Perú
tiene similares preparaciones que se dan en otros países latinoamericanos
litorales del Océano Pacífico, como son Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador,
El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, México, Nicaragua y Panamá”, aseveró la
empresaria.
Agregó que esta feria espera congregar
no sólo a los 450 mil peruanos que residen en New Jersey sino a ciudadanos de
todo el noreste americano, entre ellos los provenientes del Área Triestal,
conformado por New York, New Jersey y Connecticut.
