Transnational Citizenship Across the Americas A one-day conference at Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey Friday, March 26, 2010 / 9AM – 6PM Alexander Library, Pane Room, 169 College Avenue, New Brunswick, New Jersey The conference aims to examine how increasing transnational migration in the Americas have produced shifting boundaries of citizenship – not only in the US, but perhaps more so in sending countries in Latin America and the Caribbean. Social Agenda in Latin America As part of the Current Affairs Series, the United Nations University Office at the UN Headquarters New York (UNU-ONY) is organizing a discussion entitled "Social Agenda in Latin America" with Former President of the Republic of Peru Dr. Alejandro Toledo. Dr. Toledo will talk about the evolving social, economic, and political landscape in Latin America. The focus of his discussion will be the development of a new "Latin America Consensus". The basis of this consensus is a new social agenda developed by 20 former Latin American Presidents at the Global Center for Development and Democracy that focuses squarely on poverty alleviation, access to education and nutrition, health care, low cost energy, strengthening democratic institutions, and bridging the digital divide. Fumar hace daño a casi todos los órganos del cuerpo, causando enfermedes y comprometiendo la salud del fumador. De acuerdo a una reciente encuesta nacional sobre el uso de drogas y la salud (NSDUH) alrededor de 70.3 millones de americanos mayores de 12 anos informaron haber usado tabaco por lo menos una vez. De estos, 59.9 millones, que representa el 24.9% de la población, eran fumadores de cigarrillos, 13.7 millones de puros o cigarros, 1.8 millones de pipa, mientras que 7.2 millones usaron tabaco sin humo.
